February is the MONTH OF Polar Plunges in 2011
What is a Polar Plunge?
A Polar Plunge is a fundraising challenge made to an individual or group challenging them to dive into a cold body of water in order to raise money for Special Olympics. Each participant collects pledges from family, friends and businesses in the hopes of raising lots of money for the local Program. Then, on a select day, they
"take the plunge" in the cold water to
benefit Special Olympics.
The Polar Plunge is a very popular
special event among Law Enforcement
Torch Run volunteers across the country.
Approximately 24 Polar Plunges take
place every year in 15 U.S. states,
helping to raise millions of dollars for
Special Olympics Programs.
Step 1: Register
Online registration helps us prepare
for the Polar Plunge by letting us know
how many plungers to expect; however
plungers can still register for the event
the day of the plunge.
Plunging as a team is much more fun
than plunging alone. Think of the pleasure
you will have watching your friends or
co-workers scream! This is a great event for
church groups, companies, student organizations clubs, etc.
If you are too chicken to make the plunge, show your support by making a pledge to a braver soul.

Step 2: Collect Pledges
To plunge, you must collect a “bear” minimum of $50 in pledges. Collect pledges from friends, neighbors, co-workers or relatives and turn them in prior to, or on the day of the plunge at the registration table. You will receive a Polar Plunge T-shirt as a token of our appreciation.
Additional incentive prizes will also be awarded.
Incentives will be given out based on pledges received up to the day of the plunge. We try to order enough incentives to supply all plungers; however we cannot always guarantee your incentives will be on hand. If you do not receive all your incentives the day of the plunge, they will be available for pick-up after the Plunge. This years incentives will be:
$50 - $249 T-Shirt
$250 - $499 Coffee Mug or Tote Bag
$500 - $999 Beach Towel or Throw Blanket
$1,000 and up - Jacket
Create a personal fundraising web page (available now leading up to the plunges). It only takes a few minutes and you can send the link to your friends and family asking them for donations via credit card online. It’s simple, easy and free! .
Step 3: Take A Plunge
All plungers must sign a waiver the day of the Plunge. Plungers who are under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Prizes will be awarded for the following Plunge contests:
